Things to know about Summer Camp 2011:

  • Ages 5-12
  • 9-5pm
  • Student to Teacher ratio is always 15:1
  • extended care from 8am-9am and 5pm-6pm for an additional cost.
  • Pack a lunch, a drink and two snacks.
  • Final showcase on Friday at 4pm for family and friends.

Comedy-Improvisation – Just Wingin’ It

Ladies and gentlemen, here they are, once again: ACT and New Movement Theater, joining forces to present to you a week of comedy! Do you think your funny? Do you want to be? Do you en joy the sweet sounds of laughter? Well, this is the camp for you! Learn the art of improvisational comedy from two of Austin’s award-winning performers, Chris and Tami. Play great games, form comedy troupes and perform “Live on Friday”.

MythUnderstanding

Ever wondered what would happen if Zeus ran into Osiris or if Jupiter met Ra? What if all of your favorite characters from mythology ended up at the same slumber party? In this camp we will explore well-known myths and create our own, complete with creatures, gods, heroes and more! Create an original story by putting them all together in a Myth Mash-up, and bring it to life on stage in Friday’s performance.

Rock Musical Tour 2011

The Rock Musical Tour was such a hit, we have decided to have a Reunion Tour! It’s time for another show, so grab a seat on the tour bus before it takes off on another rockin musical adventure. Campers will create their own rock stars and put together a show, complete with songs and dances from your favorite famous rock musicals. End the tour with a Friday performance that rocks!

June 27-July 1
Star of the Screen – Urban Legends

Everyone knows a tale to tell around the campfire or at the sleepover party, and everyone knows the best tales are the ones that “really happened”. In this camp, you will create your own legends and tales and watch them unfold as you tell your stories and act them for the camera. Your original urban legends will be brought to life on screen in an action-packed and funny film. There will be a red-carpet roll out for the world-premier screening of your movie on Friday.

MARVELous Comics

ZAP! BAM! POW! Calling all Comic fans! Want to be a superhero? A super villain? The funny sidekick? Maybe you’d like to report on all of the action, adventure, suspense, and drama that happens in the big city?! Whoever you decide to be, you will help create an original comic book world in this exciting week of camp! Make your very own characters and comic strips and bring them to life on stage. Perform your original show on Friday.

Wanna Be GLEE! – Star of the Screen

When you can’t say it, sing it! Show off your school spirit and your love of singing in this mock-up of the popular TV show. Create your own characters and situations, and develop your own episode. Take your Glee-clubbers on a journey packed with song, dance, and friendship. The week will end with Friday’s world-premier screening that will have everyone singing.

Shake-a-Speare

*Back again by popular demand! Take a trip to Shakespeare’s world and create your own story based on what you discover. We will explore Shakespearean and renaissance theater, learn basic stage combat, and perform a show that celebrates the Bard himself, complete with characters and language from your favorite Shakespeare plays! All the world’s a stage! Perform your original show on Friday.

MASKerade….The Show Must Go On!

Comedia, Cirque de Sole, Carnival… Your favorite European theater events all have one thing in common: Masks! Explore this unique style of theater with us as we get covered in pastier, paint, feathers, glue, googly eyes, and other fun and fancy materials. Create your own characters and bring them to life with your fantastic hand-made masks and exquisite specialized movement. Take your characters on a grand adventure and end the week with a Friday performance of your original Mask-erade show!

August 1-12
“Lost In Oz” – The Two-Week Original Play Project

Last year we tackled the new adventures of Peter Pan and Neverland. This year, we are taking a new journey to another land- Oz! Follow us on the yellow brick road to a land where anything is possible- talking animals, wicked witches, wizards and magic all around. Anything can happen in your brand new adventure in the “merry old land of Oz”. What happened before Dorothy came? What happened after she left? Did anyone else get “lost in Oz”? You will decide what happens as you create your very own Oz tale in this two-week exploration of one of the most popular stories of all time! Perform your full-length original play in a real theater for friends and family on Friday, Aug 12th. (And perhaps an encore performance on Sat, Aug 13th,) (No multi-camp discounts will be applied to this camp.)

Bye, Bye Grease…Hello Hairspray

Explore four decades of popular music in this fast-paced and fun-filled week. Create characters who will sing and dance through the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, on a fabulous musical theater journey. Create a story around your favorite Broadway hits and put together a dazzling show. End the summer with a Friday performance that will have everyone groovin’ to your brand new sound!
